Logo Text
With a passable duplicate of the background image, let's now
attempt to re-create the text found in
Logo Text in 3D
Open the spectrum image from the last lesson and immediately
add a new layer. On the Color Palette change the foreground color
to turquoise.
Working on Layer 1, (not the background layer), add your text.
It's unlikely that you will have the exact
font,
but if you
scroll through your fonts you will probably find one similar
that will do the job just as well. Make sure that the Antialias
and Floating check-boxes are checked. For now, just type the
word "The".
Add another new layer, open the text box again, and this time
type the word "Style". By putting "The" and "Style" on different
layers you can move them around and position them just where
you want. You could have done the same with one layer but
if after you added the second word you weren't pleased with
the location of the "The", it would have been more difficult
to re-select it to move it. Once you have both words exactly
where you want them, open the Layers Control Box and turn
the background off. Merge the two word layers by going to
Layers | Merge | Merge Visible on the menu bar.
Release any selections by pressing Ctrl + D on your keyboard.
To make your highlight and shadow press Ctrl + C on your
keyboard, copying the merged layer. Now press Ctrl + L twice
to paste the words into two new layers.
Open your Layers Control box and select the Merged layer. This
will be your bottom most layer and the one we will darken to
create the shadow effect. Go to
Colors | Adjust | Brightness/Contrast
on the menu bar. To make the bottom layer as dark as possible
adjust the Brightness setting to -100 (minus 100), Contrast to 0(Zero).
Now select layer 2 on your Layer Control box, back to
Brightness/Contrast only this time we want the text to be white,
so set the Brightness slider to 100 (plus 100), Contrast 0 (Zero).
Layer 3, the final layer will be left the original color. Selecting
one layer at a time in the Layer Control box, position your text
so that the white layer is slightly above and left of the
turquoise layer and the black layer is slightly below and
right of it. If you can't see your highlight layer in the image
window, it is probably behind the Layer 3 text. In your
Layers Control dialog box turn Layer 3 off with the Layer
Visibility Toggle button. After you have positioned the
highlight turn Layer 3 back on.
Not satisfied with the turquoise text? Simply select
it's layer (layer 3) in the Layer Control box, and on
the menu bar select Colors | Colorize to change
it.
