Inner and Outer Bevel

Outer Bevel
The Outer Bevel expands the size of a selection by the width of the
bevel, creating the appearance of raised edges. Depending on
whether the text, or the area outside of the text is selected, you
can create various different styles.
Both of the examples below were created using the Angled pre-set. The
only variable that was changed was the width, from 8 to 31.

Create your text as Standard text, with Selection and
Antialias checked in the Create as box. Use the Airbrush
tool to add a hint of color to the selection before adding the
Outer Bevel. On the menu bar select
[Effects > 3D Effects > Outer Bevel],
making the above adjustments in the dialog box.

This example uses the same effect but rather than creating
the text as a Selection, check Floating in the "Create As" box.
Before adding the bevel effect invert the selection by pressing
CTRL + Shift + I on your keyboard. Add the bevel with the same
settings as before.

Inner Bevel
The Inner Bevel curves the inner edges of an object surrounded by
a selection or a transparency, without increasing the size of the object.
Similar to the Outer Bevel, Inner Bevel can be applied using one of
a collection of pre-sets, or you can create your own effect with the
slider options.

The example to the left was created by adding Floating text
and simply applying the Inner Bevel Angle pre-set. The text itself
was selected, the selection was contracted by 1 pixel to add the
drop shadow after the bevel was applied.

The same starting text was added for this example, but this time
the selected area was inverted before applying the Inner
Bevel Angle pre-set.
