Currently Available Packages - Page 3
December 13, 2000
A decision as to which package to choose is not to be made
lightly. The most important things of all are stability and
future prospects. Does the package work correctly most of the
time? Is the maker truly committed to continuing to upgrade
and support the product? Alas, these are things that no review
can tell you, so whether you're leaning towards in-house ad
management or a rep firm/network, I strongly advise you to spend
some time swapping stories with people who use the various
systems in the real world. There are several good mailing lists
out there. See the list of resources at the end of this article.
Ad management software, especially the high-end products, can be
very picky about the OS and Web server software that they run on.
Some of these packages will not work on some versions of
Unix. Be sure to make certain that your dream software will work
with the particular Unix version and Web server that you are
using.

AdJuggler
For a comparatively low price, AdJuggler offers much of the
functionality of the top-dollar packages, including extensive
targeting and reporting features. Prior to joining Internet.com,
the Web Developer's Journal used AdJuggler (version 1.4), and
found it reliable and powerful. Like all products in its class,
however, it called for a fair amount of expertise to install.
The new AdJuggler 4.1 is based on Java Servlets, and can be used
with any ODBC-compliant database. It can run on:
- Windows NT 4.0 SP 4
- Windows 2000
