Let's Go! - Actions

March 8, 2000

Actions are what make Flash interactive.

Actions make Flash fun to work with. Actions are what make Flash a serious development tool. So let's get some actions!

Double click on the stop button on the stage. This opens the Instance Properties dialogue.

In the actions tab, click on the plus sign to get a list of actions. Click on stop. This will tell Flash to stop the main movie, (remember that our friend the penguin is a movie clip inside a movie), when you click the stop button.

Apply the same procedure to the start button, only with the start action. On the File Menu select Control | Enable Buttons. Test the movie.

Pretty cool, huh? Pleased with yourself, I bet. But there's something wrong. Trouble a-brewin' in Penguinland. His scarf still whips behind him from the wind drag even when he's at a dead stop. I don't think that's what we want.
