Getting Started
April 17, 2000
Download plex_01.fla. This is your
carefully composed Flash design based on such principles as line,
color, balance, and not wanting to spend more than a couple of
hours writing this article. All the pieces are there - and almost
all of them are already in place - so we can just add the
"data" part.
We'll start by imagining that Bubba, a typical client, is smart
and ambitious enough to use a text editor and an FTP client, (or
that the server where our Flash movie will live is in Bubba's
office). Just imagine for now - you may have to close your eyes
for a moment.
We're going to set up our Flash movie so that it reads the data
pertaining to Bubba's showtimes from a .txt file. That way, Bubba
can just change the .txt file every day when he updates the
showtimes.
Quick inventory of what has been done already on plex_01.fla:
- Layout Static Text
- Text fields have been labeled appropriately
- "Showtimes" button already works ("Go to and Stop (2)" action has
been applied).
